The Boreal Ecosystem Research and Monitoring Sites (BERMS) [53.59N–54.27N; 104.32W–104.99W] cover an area of 33 km x 71 km (about 2 SMOS pixels). BERMS is essentially composed of 4 forest types (old Aspen, old Jack Pine, Fen, and old Black Spruce). The BERMS site benefits from a permanent soil moisture measurements network managed by Environment Canada. For a detailed description: click here.
